Here is some scientific backing showing adverse effects on blood glucose from frequent meals vs. 3 meals to get you started:
http://www.e-spenjournal.org/article/S1751-4991%2810%2900054-5/abstract

Again, if eating frequently works for you- great. My point was that this advice is often delivered like dogma from 'nutrition gurus' and doctors who are totally off-base.

Hmm...it works better for me. But as far as a scientific backing I have not found it.
I feel more satisfied this way.
And I am succeeding in my goals.

Thank you for the information. I am an addictions specialist and really get tired of explaining this over and over and over again. The marketing is great and the personal stories only fuel the fire. At the same time, these people also complain about not being able to sleep well and take a dangerous drug like Ambien (or drink alcohol and smoke) combined with a crappy diet with little to no water intake. And then the wonder of "why do I feel like this?" but of course denial to what people want to do is amazing. So again, thanks.

You certainly merit a couple of praise for your article and more specifically, your blog in general. Very high quality entries.

"Here are more websites for the doubters.
http://www.pcrm.org"

Durianrider, it's impossible to take you seriously when the only thing you by way of evidence are misinformative vegan blogs and PETA-run propaganda front sites like the PCRM:

That's true Eva. I just don't think that simple rules have to be extreme or inflexible ones. As those tend to set people up for failure down the road and not be sustainable.

Yes I often refer people to Weston Price's work to help understand how we've gone wrong with elements of modern diets. I agree with you about veganism, however more flexible types of semi-vegetarianism that include one or more of fish, eggs, dairy, poultry can supply plenty of adequate nutrition. But if your diet requires supplement powders in order to deliver adequate nutrition, I think something is off track. My only point is that if someone is going to be fair and not cherry pick- if they bring up Art DeVany, they should also bring up Don Wildman.

I assume you've read Nutritional and Physical Degeneration? That book is a great example of what you are talking about here. Different groups all over the world were healthy eating completely different diets. As a group, humans are very adaptable. Tracking the evolution of man and their widening over the continents, people had to eat just what was available, which is different in every part of the world. I do think, however, than some form of animal or animal based foods like milk and eggs should be consumed by everyone. I know there are healthy vegans, but it seems like it is really difficult to achieve that (all the powders and supplements that must be used) and most vegans I know are not in the best health.

Thanks for the comment Swede. Couldn't agree more about overly-restrictive eating. It's unnecessary, unsustainable in the long-term, and usually causes more problems than it solves.

I read a lot of nutrition blogs, and this has to be one of the best articles I have read in a while. I'm going to try and link to this post on some other blogs that I read so it gets more exposure. You did a great job of summing this up without resorting to the usual "moderation is key" talking point that most nutritional advisers always fall into. I'm sure a lot of people are like myself and have fallen into one or more of these extreme positions, and finally breaking out of that cycle is very refreshing. There is too much good food out there to live life as a restrictive eater!
